Whats wrong wth my friend's ear?!

Question: My friend recently showed me her left ear and told me that her ear cartilage at the top where her ear is supposed to curl in has gone all hard and boney.. it doesn't even curl in and its just flat because the cartilage has gone hard and boney.

She said that her dad accidently hit her ear with his watch when she was 5 and that there was a bruise with dark brown blood so her doctor removed it from her ear (not inside it) with a needle and now its gone all hard.

What's wrong with it and why is it lke that?

It sounds like she has Cauliflower Ear. It happens alot to boxers and wrestlers when they take a sharp blow to the ear.
It can also happen to anyone else who gets hit in the ear as well.
What happens is that blood vessels in the ear rupture on impact and the blood seeps into the tissue. The blood then coagulates and becomes hard an inflexible. It can be at several degrees of magnitude from just slightly noticable to really deformed.
I would suggest your friend see a doctor again soon, there are things that can be done to make it go away, but the longer she waits, the more difficult it will be. It is not life threatening or anything, just annoying.
