What is acid anyway? And what are the trips?!

Question: In my Reading class we are reading a book called "That Was Then, This Is Now" and one of the characters tried acid.

The book says the hippies do it but what is it really?

Is it a nickname for a drug like "ice" for meth or "grass" for marijuana?

It is kind of a nickname for a drug. Acid is LSD. The trips are the "high" that people experience while on LSD. The full name of LSD is lysergic acid diethylamide (the abrivation LSD comes from the german name for the drug...but I don't remember what that is). LSD is in a class of drugs called psychedelics, and psychedilics were sometimes a common thing for hippies to use.

acid is LSD

not only hippies try it as well, a lot of people now a days do it... mainly ravers but i know quite a few people. Its LSD and it makes you hallucenate
