Should I have my tonsils out?!

Question: My ENT gave me some meds to try before going thru with saying I need my tontsils out. I think my tontsil infection is mainly caused by my sinus problems, but the sinus meds aren't seeming to stop my tontsils from getting infected. Growing up I got tonsilitus 3 times a year or more. They wouldn't take them out because they said I'd outgrow it by 21. Well I'm 28 and I'm SOOOO sick of being sick. Do you think having them out will help or do nothing? I'm SOOOO scared of the idea of surgery, but I can't seem to do anything, I'm always sick! Any advice?

All I can say is that when I was 19 and had my tonsils out, I was shocked at how much better I felt overall from that point on. I could breathe better, I could swallow better, and shockingly, I could speak more clearly. I had no idea it was affecting my ability to talk. I was just absolutely amazed. Combine that with the fact that I never got strep or tonsillitis again from that day forward, and the sinus infections went from nearly monthly to once every few years, and I say go for it. If you're anything like I was, you definitely will be much better off.

well once you take your tonsils out then you wont get tonsilitus anymore. it is a very quick and simple surgery. you throat will be sore afterwards but i hear it is not to bad. they will give you some medication in your IV before you go to the operating room to help calm you down. it has a amnesic effect so most likely you wont even remember going into the room. then you feel like you nodded off for a few minutes and wake up in the recovery room.

A couple of years ago I got a bad case of strep throat (I was 23). A few weeks later my tonsils swelled up to be pretty massive (they were touching each other) and stayed that swollen for 3+ months. The first time I saw my ENT she suggested I have them removed, so I went ahead and did it. She also said they were the largest tonsils she had ever seen in her 30 years of practicing. Make sure you have about 2 weeks to recover from the surgery if you opt to have them removed. It isn't that bad; you get to take that sweet tasting pink antibiotic again :)
