How do you know if you're bi-polar?!

Question: I have always been a really calm and patient person. But I have been married for 9 years now and have 2 children. I also have a 15 yr old step daughter that has been causing me a great deal of stress, not to mention my husband. But lately, I have a short fuse and I just want to hurt someone. Like the other day I went off on my husband, punching and pushing him after he made me really mad. Then, I got clam and felt better.
Is this bi-polar?

Is this bi-polar?

this does not sound bi-polar.
bi- polar disorder is characterized by extreme highs (manic stages) and extreme lows (depressed stages). this is why it's also called manic depressive.
still, seeing your doctor would be a good idea!

Mood is changing like every minute.

Bi-polar is the "it" disease today to have, but I doubt you have it, go to your Dr. and tell them your symptoms. Don't rely on the internet for diagnosing yourself.

No its called fed up polar Where you just get tired of people,s **** but you know you have to put up with it until you die anyways

you have to either be spending your house at the casino, driving off cliffs, or doing "crazy things" before you are truelty classified as bi-polar

This is stress and frustration. the term bi-polar is what some quack would label you so they could put you on meds for the rest of your life to make you a "Managable person" then charging your insurance millions over the next 40 years

sounds like frustration to me. I bet if you get your relationships (with step daughter and hubby) back in line, the fits of anger with subside.

you can try breathing exercises, they helped me a lot when I had problems with wife and step daughter.

No, that sounds fairly normal, considering the stress that you're under. I had a friend that was bipolar, and she was really out there. At times the highest, happiest person around, but at other times a real zombie. Sometimes at night when others were sleeping, she'd be doing strange things, like chanting things, or just staying up watching tv, then making absurd accusations, like I had cast a spell on her or did something behind her back. Nope, you're just fine. You just need to relax and take it easy.

It sounds like stress. If however you are worried, please see your doctor. There are many tests they can perform to determine if you are bi-polar. I don't think it just happens over night. People with bi-polar disorder are often very very depressed and often think of suicide. Please seek care from your doc.

you would be crazy literally. my husbands ex wife is bi polar and she is nuts. you would act like britney spears. it's just your nerves.

I have a son that is bi-polar. Some of the symptoms are very similar to that of ADD He was actually misdiagnosed with ADD when it was bi polar. Here is a website to better help you understand the disorder and the symptoms.

No. You are apparently under a lot of stress and your breaking because of it. Bipolar disorder is a neuropsychiatric disease in which periods of depression alternate with periods of feeling manic ("hyper," seemingly happy, having racing thoughts, and poor impulse control, and other symptoms) People with bipolar disorder often receive a misdiagnosis and are treated with depression drugs (which don't work for BP) because they sometimes only explain the depressive side of the illness to their docs. I'm not a doctor, but I think you are just fed up with your life and this is what is causing the moodiness.

Ask yourself

Sorry, bad joke for your serious question. I just think you lost your temper.
Always remember with the 15 year old. You are not her mother. Try to be her friend. Don't tell her to do things, ask her. Do nice things for her. Take her side against her father (but let him know in advance you may do this). Try to EARN her trust and affection. Don't try to dictate your authority.

Take her out to lunch one day, just the two of you. As her opinion on things like bullies ins school or something you did when you were her age.

Good luck

If you are worried see a doctor, but just try some regular exercise 2 or 3 times a week, that can help too. Unless you moods are really extreme, I would not say you are bipolar.

No, this is no bipolar. From your description it seems like you are just experiencing extreme stress. The stress is related to your family situation. Some might say that you are exhibiting a "sane response to an insane situation!"

Bipolar is different, it is neurological.

That isn't bipolar. Basically, bipolar would manifest itself as 'proper mental'. You're angry and stressed. Teenagers will do that to you. (Although try to bear in mind she probably gets just as angry and frustrated as you. I had a complete evil bastard of a stepmother who threw knives at me. It's not fun.)
Try herbal remedies (or a joint...) and if that doesn't work, see a doctor.

BTW that 'ask yourself' joke doesn't work with bipolar. It's for schizophrenics or MPD.
