Blood donation?!

Question: Can you give blood if you have taken drugs in the last few days?

Answers: Can you give blood if you have taken drugs in the last few days?

I am assuming you mean illegal drugs, in which case you will be specifically asked this before you are allowed to donate and will be refused if you are truthful.

when you say drugs - are we talking over the counter, prescription or illegal. You can't donate if you are on Anti b, or have a cold as the virus is in your blood.

yes i would have it anyway

Not a good idea. This is normally because the person the blood that is going to may end up with a reaction to whatever you put into your body. Usually someone who needs blood isn't in the best of health at the time they need it. That which is still in your blood stream could readily interfere with whatever may be needed to keep that person alive.

That's the same reason why they don't allow you to donate if you've been sick for 10 days prior.

You shouldn't really.....traces of drugs could be passed on to a very ill patient whih would make them worse. Also - if you are a drug user, and use needles you should definately not give blood due to the risk of Hepatitis B and C being passed on or HIV....you may be clear - but the risk is always there.

Why would you want to give some poor sick person blood full of illegal drugs? Besides which, if the donor is an IV user, then there are so many other risks - Hepatitis and HIV for starters. I hope you're not serious!

no way should you why on earth do you want to donate when you are playing with youre own life is crazy"donations saves lives"

Guidelines for donating bloodin the US state:
Intravenous use of illegal street drugs/narcotics constitutes a HIV high risk activity and results in indefinite deferral.
People who have taken money or drugs for sex, since 1977 cannot give blood.
Wait 12 months after using cocaine or other street drugs through your nose.
Since you did not specify the drug, this is the information I found that may help. I would not donate blood if you have ingested any street drug within the last month. You are putting the blood supply at risk by doing so.
Of course, if you are donating blood for your own use only, these rules do not apply.

In the UK,if you want to donate blood, you first have to fill in a set of questions, and it's based on the answers you give as to whether you are allowed to donate on that occasion.
