Migraines can be helped in several different ways.
I have suffered with them for over 20 years. I have seen a Neurologist, Chiropractor, and have taken the herbs Feverfew and White Willow Bark.

A Neurologist can help because they will determine the cause of the migraine and treat it with the proper meds. Sometimes it takes a combination of medications to work.

A Chiropractor does spinal and neck manipulation, which helps also.

And there have been major studies by Universities that show that taking Feverfew and Willow Bark everyday help also.

You should start with a Neurologist if you can. I have found this to be the most effective. An GP cannot diagnose nor treat migraines. They don't have enough knowledge.

I get the same problem but i havent been to a doctor. Also, my friend's mom has ur exact senario. I say take alergy medicine. It helps me out a lot. If not, dont freak out, but I saw on TV that it can be due to a tumer. I doubt it, but as a last resort you should check it out.

I have heard taking a mixture of Calcium, Magnesium and Zink helps to prevent some types of migrains. But you have to take them regularly and may take a little time to work. Also your medications may cause more problems for you than helps. Don't over medicate! It may be something besides allergies. If possible go to a Migrain specialist.

Go back to your doctor. There are different kinds of migraine medications available now. There is Imitrex and others to treat a migraine already in progress and they have Topomax which is used to prevent migraines. I use both of these and they are highly effective. You don't have to live with migraines and let them control your life. Watch what your eat. No food with preservatives. No red wine. Read labels. Look on the Internet and you will see a whole list of foods to avoid. Also keep your sinuses clean, avoid smoke and strong odors as in cleaners, perfumes, scented candles and the like as they can set off a migraine. When you get one, wrap your head with a cold compress. You can buy the kind that you keep in the refrigerator or freezer at your local drugstore that have a gel inside of them. Get a couple of them so you can trade out when one gets warm. It helps me. Good luck. Just keep going back to your doctor until he provides you with a helpful medication or medications. Ralpax (spelling) is also available.

First of all, I can almost certainly say that it is not a brain tumor. Please don't worry about this. Your symptoms seem to perfectly match those of a migraine. This is a website that is open to all members of the public, and most people who come here are not doctors. If your doctor thought you might have a brain tumor, he/she would have ordered a CT scan or some other similar kind of test.

What kind of doctors have you been to? Have you been to been to a headache specialist? I also have migraines and have been to several different doctors for them. No one was ever able to help me until I went to a neurologist who specializes in headaches. He actually has a headache clinic and all he does is treat patients with headaches. If you have not been to this kind of doctor, you really should go. Even if you have been to one, if that particular doctor is not able to help you, try going to another one.

Chances are, there is some kind of medicine out there that can help you. You just have to keep trying different things until you find something that helps. If you have migraines often enough, you might be able to take something to prevent them. It took me about a year and a half of trying different out different medicines before I found something that even worked a little bit. It really sucks, and I'm really sorry you're finding yourself in this position. I know how bad it is to get migraines for no obvious reason and what it's like not to be able to plan things because you're afraid of getting a migraine. And there a very few things as discouraging as being in horrible pain and knowing that you just have to suffer through it because there's nothing you can do to help.

I wish I could offer a better suggestion, but all I can say is to find a good doctor who understands your situation and understands migraines, and keep trying different medicines until you find one that works. Also, educate yourself on migraines--how they work, the kinds of medicines used to treat them, how the medicines work, clinical trials, etc. I really think that if you keep on trying and don't give up, you will eventually find something that can help you.

By the way: I haven't ever tried this before myself, but I have read about studies that have shown that migrianeurs who practice yoga have shown a decrease in the number of migraines they have. I am considering trying this myself. It might be something you are interested in too.

Magnesium can help in some cases and you can find further information in a search for migraines + magnesium.
