Coughing Question?!

Question: Hi this is a weird question I am not really sure how to explain but I will do my best. I am not great with medical terminology. So I had a cold about a week back and now I just have the annoying lingering cough. The other night I was in the living room sitting on the couch watch TV nothing out of the normal. I had a horrible coughing spell for like 30 seconds or more. All the sudden I get done and my body goes almost completely numb I can't move or talk but I can hear and see everything including my wife asking me if I am okay? About 30 seconds later I came to and my wife was like hun are you okay you were in a like trans for like 30 seconds there? Afterwards I feel like tired and weak for about the next hour or so. Any ideas what could be happening? This only happens when I have a bad coughing spell otherwise it never happens? A friend of mine suggested possibly a seizure but I have never had one so I have no idea??? Thanks everyone.

If this happens when you have a coughing "spell", and it sounds like you have had more than one........you must tell your doctor.
Some things this could be:
Seizure
TIA (mini stroke)
Carotid insufficiency
Stroke
Mal Charo malformation in the brain (if you get a SEVERE
headache...go to emergency room)

There are many reasons this could be happening, I have listed some of the more life threatening ones.
Go see your doctor so your wife will have you for a little longer.

ya it sounds like a seizure to me get to a Dr. ASAP

go to a doctor. Your lacking oxygen while you cough.

I don't know, but that definitely sounds like you need to visit the doctor.

sounds like oxygen depletion to the brain (stroke like condition) with an extreme coughing fit. i suggest using some kind of tussin until your cough is gone. you can consult with an md if you like.

if u put ur head when u cough all the blood rushes to ur head so thats probably the reason but idk u should go see a doctor

that has happened to me i think it has to due with your coughing so hard your body isnt breathing so when you finally can breath you feel faint and numb..You should be check to see if you have asthma.

You depleted your oxygen reserves and had to get some air. I've had it happen when I was over weight. Yes, I got up to 245 and had a heck of a time with bronchitics and other health problems. I would get a cold in the fall and it would last most of the winter. I quit smoking and lost 90 pounds and most of my symptoms went away. Then I discovered I had diabetes. Get checked

It sounds like you are blacking out because you are not inhaling air. Your brain isn't getting the oxygen it needs when you are coughing that hard. You may need to see a specialist. If that continues it could lead to brain damage. I would take any chances, go see a doctor.

Best wishes!

Whooping cough (pertussis) is a highly contagious bacterial infection of the upper respiratory system-specifically, the area where the nasal passages meet the back of the throat (nasopharynx). The infection causes irritation in breathing passages, resulting in severe coughing spells. The illness has three distinct stages and can last months.

Complications like pneumonia can result from whoopingAfter being immunized or after recovering from whooping cough infection, you are temporarily protected from getting a severe form of the disease again. Older adults are also more likely than other people to develop complications from whooping cough.

How many people do you need to tell you to go to the doctors, You should never play around with your health!
