I have a very bad cough too and am taking the Halls Mentho-Lyptus Black Cherry flavored cough drops. They are sugar free and really sooth my sore throat too. I am also taking Vicks Formula 44 E cough syrup.
I had a bad cough a few years ago. The Halls Tropical Fruit Breezers worked really well (and they tasted like candy).

If u have mucous with that cough it may not help to take cough drops. If the cough is producing mucous with a yellow or greenish color u may need antibiotics. if there is no mucous and ur throat is irritated then in this case a cough drop may help.If ur cough is dry and u feel like u have mucuous in ur chest and u r not bringing any mucous up then u need an expectorant.
