Effective constipation reliever?!

Question: My stomach is always so swollen and sore and I have a hard time going a lot. My doctor diagnosed with with Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

I'm tired of feeling sick all the time, and sick of having to take stool softeners all the time and getting next to no results.

I'm always sick, always nauseous and my stomach is always hard and bloated. I'm not pregnant.

What can I take to effectively get me "going" without explosive results?

Keep in mind I'm in school full day, so I need something that won't have me running in and out of class.

I also have IBS. I have to watch what I eat. In my case, I have diarrhea if I eat green and leafy vegetables and fruits in excess. But when I'm constipated, I eat one or two prunes and I get immediate relief and results. I also try to consume 8-12 glassfuls of water daily.

Vegetables, fruits (especially dried fruits) and some cereals (whole wheat, bran or oatmeal) are excellent sources of fiber. It is easy to remember that the harder a vegetable is (like celery), the more fiber it has. To reap the benefits of fiber, it is very important to drink an adequate amount of water to help with the passage of stool in the intestines

A diet high in vegetables and bran cereals is very effective in treating and preventing constipation. As mentioned above, adequate water intake is as crucial as is exercise. Exercise aids the movement of stool in the intestines. This lifestyle is especially important for the elderly, for whom constipation is very common

Try to make it a daily habit to go first thing in the morning before school. .

try to take Metamucil? not sure of spelling. it's a fiber which will help keep you regular. take it daily.
i take it when needed one teaspoon in a small glass of iced tea mix. you know, dry premixed tea and sugar.
you must drink it quickly because it turns into a thickened liquid if you don't. get the orange flavored.
it's really not a laxative. try taking it after dinner.
good luck to ya.

Hi bran diet. Try Fiber One cereal...take 2 portions ...you need 25-30 mg of fiber/day. Dark green vegetables. Magnesium 600-800mg/day (it relaxes the muscles). Prune juice or prunes. My mother swears by Nabisco Cinnamon Crackers at night.

Drink plenty of water. Take your weight/divide in half & that's how much water you should drink/day.

If you have cramps ask for dicyclomine for IBS it works great & is a really pretty blue:-D

I hope that helps some.
