Sore throat like knives slicing it open when i swallow...?!

Question: ...ok, maybe i exaggerate!!

but it does hurt - i had no voice this morning, but its gradually returned through the day - very feeble and on and off though.

i'm keeping the bees and the lemon growers in business - anything else i can do?

i'm trying not to swallow, but that isn't as easy as it sounds.

Gargle with a strong sea salt solution (actually any salt will 'do' but good quality sea salt is best for minerals and ideally no anti-caking agent)

Dissolve about a heaped teaspoon of sea salt in warm -hot water, then gargle for 30 - 60 seconds with each of several mouthfuls.

WARNING: After gargling - spit out - Try not to swallow it.

It is pretty vile -- BUT the after effects are good and it soothes the soreness and kils the bacteria!

Paracetamol to keep the swelling down.
Personally I always find a very small nip of brandy does wonders too!
Actually though, if your throat is raw feeling, try rinsing/gargling with salt water. That is a really good healer.

Sounds like tonsilitis to me. You should go see your doctor tomorrow. In the mean time you could try sucking a boiled sweet or chewing some gum, sounds strange but i was advised to do this when i had tonsilitis and it really does help as you make more saliva or something. Hope your feeling better soon.

P.s. gargleing with diluted tcp or salt water helps to but it tastes vile!

Buy some Strepsils from the chemist, if it doesn't improve in a day or 2 see your doctor, you may need an antibiotic.

Go to the chemist and ask for tyrosets (i think that's how you spell it) they are throat lozenges with an anaesthetic in them they work fab for the kind of sore throat you have. Also regular paracetamol AND Ibuprofen and gargle with warm salt water.
Hope you feel better soon :~)

Google Garlic.
Garlic is suppose to be good for sore throats, It is like the internal version of an antibiotic like Neosporin.
I personaly have used it and it seemed to make it feel better. Maybe it was in my head , but dont take my word for it, try it out yourself.

MIX SOME HONEY WITH SOME VINEGAR ADD WARM WATER AND GARGLE.THE HONEY WILL SOOTHE AND THE VINEGAR IS AN ANTISEPTIC.TRUST ME IT WORKS.

Could be tonsilitis go to your GP, good luck!

ive had septic throats for years very painful indeed just like you describe try gergling with salt water 5 or 6 times a day

I'm sure you're not exaggerating. Nobody likes to feel bad. I'm sure you don't either.
I would like to caution you against assuming that something hot will make it feel better. It may feel nice and soothing, but if you still have your tonsils, this could be what has become inflamed. The heat can aggravate that and make it swell and then it gets worse. I did that once.
I learned in high school about sports medicine and they recommended putting ice on something when you feel pain and have inflammation. You can take a ziploc bag, fill it with ice and put it right on the sore spot. You can't hurt yourself, but it may sting initially until it goes numb. That should take about 7 to 10 minutes. In a little bit, you will feel nothing. It's faster than taking a pill and you can do it as often as you like.
The ice is actually supposed to stimulate white blood cells to go in and clean up the infection.
Something like a Chloraseptic with a nice cool, menthol thing happening there and a 'caine (I can't remember which one) to help you heal would be a good idea but I realize you may not be up to going out to the store to buy it. This is a nice home remedy and you may all ready have it in your home. It really does work.
I hope you feel better real soon.

I am only answering to confirm one of your other answers who stated that vinegar and honey in warm water works.

Believe him when he says to trust him that it works!

I had the same problem as you and found on the internet this concoction, so gave it ago, and the next morning - no sore throat or cold! I have also given it to friends who suffer and it works on them as well.

You could try using cider vinegar as it is a nicer taste.

If you do not put any of these to the vote, please choose the chap with this remedy!!

Gargle with salt in warm water.

Paracetamol and ibuprofen work extremely well together, try that, make sure you take the ibuprofen with or after food though as they can cause stomach ulcers.
