Can somebody answer this about blood types?!


Question: My mother is A+, my dad is not sure what he is, my older and younger sisters are O+ and I am A+. I thought to be O+ both parents had to be O+. Can someone explain this to me in simple terms?

You have two copies of your blood type gene, one from each parent. The genes for A and B are dominant over O, so if someone is type A their genes could be either AA or AO. It seems like your mom had the AO genotype. If your dad is type O, he has an OO genotype. It's also possible that his genotype is AO or BO. Anyway, your siblings got one O gene from mom and one O gene from dad.

+ and - are completely different genes from the ABO genes.

true, but to be A+ you dont need two A genes. they can have one A and one O.
