As an adendum to your question:

You want to find out how much bad there is because you want to embrace it, not run away from it... By embracing the bad, you can accept it and feel a sense of calm, not anxiety.

It seems to me that anxiety has kept you in your shell. I praise you for asking a bunch of strangers your depression question. There is tremendous hope for you, yet.

Just do it!

Remember this statement:

"Change is essential to growth."

Depression is a normal mechanism to tell you that its time for a change. That's all it means.

Obviously you are not happy with something going on at this time.

Get out a piece of paper and divide it in half.

Label the top left Pro and the top right Con

List all the things you like about your life right now in the pro section and then write down all the things you don't like about your life in the Con section.

Next, you tally up the things you can change and the things you cannot change at this time.

In this manner, you are able to target how you perceive your world and the realization that you do have control over how you react to people and circumstances around you.

Keep in mind that growing pains are what allow you to become a better functioning adult. Adults who cope better in life have gone through a lot of growing pains and depression from time to time. It is normal.

Reading in between the lines of what you are asking is that you wish you had a closer relationship with your mom and she appears in your point of view, of not being capable of it.

A great remedy is getting involved in an extra curricular activity in school to keep you busy and build new relationships that are constructive and get you out of your depression.

What kind of scary/sad thoughts? Thoughts of killing yourself. If you have those thoughts, please call 1-800-suicide. There are people there who can help you work through your sadness.

Have you thought about talking to a friend's mom or a teacher? That might help!!

Have a sit down discussion with your mom, a "heart-to-heart", make sure you are alone and that there are no distractions so that you have her full attention. Tell her how you feel and that you are not comfortable with those feelings. Tell her you'd like to see a doctor to be sure that it's "nothing" like she says. If she still won't listen, get help from a counselor at school.

Good luck!

You know what then you go to someone who will helo. Sometimes parents just don't listen. So heres the deal. Go to a counselor at school ans tell htem what is up. let them know what is wrong with you. Then they will contect your parents. That should make you mother see that hey maybe there is a problem. Just keep trying and you will get help. Don't give up. If there is a will there is a way right? So keep trying.
