Getting tonsils removed?!

Question: does getting your tonsils removed hurt a lot?

You're asleep during the procedure and when you wake up, most likely, you'll be in recovery where they'll take good care of you. After you leave recovery, you can see your family and friends. And don't believe that you'll get ice cream. The ice cream will irritate the throat, so you get popsicles instead. Believe me, I was disappointed. :[

Anyways, you won't feel a thing, and you'll have to write down what you want to say for a week or so until you're better because it will seriously hurt your throat.

Good luck!

they put you out, so you wont feel anything until you wake up, and they will give you codeine or something for the pain most likely

No they give you some ind of air or pill that makes you go to sleep so you won't even notice it hurts...and you get ice cream when they finish =D

I got my tonsils out when i was 19 and it really sucked! But in the long run it was worth it. I used to get strep throat at least three times a year and since i got them out i have not gotten it since. You have to be really careful after the surgery for about a week and a half because if you cough to hard then you can remove the scabs that are trying to heal and you can start really bleeding in you throat uncontrollably. This happened to me and i had to go back to the hospital for a day and a night so that they could monitor me. It sucked and yes the surgery does hurt. Right after it I was in bed for about two days. You just have to be really careful post op. In the long run totally worth it. They will give you a pill crusher so that you can take percoset or vicoden mixed with warm water.

i got mine removed a few years ago. it's really not the surgery that hurts but the healing process over the next week or two that is uncomfortable. its hard to eat because the food hits the scabs in your throat. just take small bites and chew it up very well so its not too big going down your throat. really it is nothing you can't handle. you'll be fine i promise.
