I have a diseased inner ear and I get vertigo, nausea and tinnitus when attacks flare up. I always assumed that tinnitus was bell-like ringing, but I hear what sounds like a pneumatic drill, or high-pitched tones. The noises sound as if they are in the environment around me though and it was not initially obvious to me that I was hearing something that no one else could.

Yes - mine was caused by having my ears syringed 4 times.

Nope

I get it so do a lot of my friends, from making music..

it's not the bass that damages your ears, it's the trebble..

avoid using headphones and rest your ears.. are you sure its not an ear infection?

you will get like a test tone noise, if you have tinnitus or "bells" ringing.

and never hold ya nose to unblock ya ears, as that may cause you to burst ya ear drum.

If you have fluid behind your eardrum, better not just put up with it. I can cause permanent hearing loss later. See an ENT man. Had your tonsils and adenoids out?
Re tinnitus- lots of causes; probably the most common cause is noise exposure. Lots of kids nowadays are going to be wearing hearing aids at 40 or sooner. Best answer will come from your ENT doctor. That is their field.

yes i've got a perforated ear drum and it drives me nuts!
