What causes "shrooms" to cause you to hallucinate?!

Question: like what is the chemical? is it possible to overdose? how much does it take to overdose? and what are the long term side effects of using magic mushrooms?

psilocybin is the chemical in shrooms. ive never heard of anyone dying from simply eating shrooms. if you eat too many and have an insane trip and walk into oncoming traffic and die that may be a different story. besides you would probably throw up before you took too much to actually die.

the reason you hallucinate, in scientific terms, is that psilocybin resembles serotonin and it binds to receptors. it DOESNT make your brain bleed. in a documentary, the scientist explained it like "neurons in the brain only communicate with certain other neurons. hallucinogens allow neurons to communicate with neurons they've never communicated with before, hence the sensory overload and hallucinations."

there arent any physical long term side effects. if you have a bad trip it could scar you mentally but assuming you dont have any mental disorders, this will all go away in about a month. so the only potential side effects are mental. if its your first time dont take more than 1 gram dried mushrooms. maybe even keep a couple benzos around in case the trip goes bad. also make sure you are absolutelty sure you want to do this with no second thoughts and just be in a relaxing atmosphere with someone you are comfortable with. NOT A PARTY DRUG.

Psilocybin ; overdose is unlikely all though I have experienced severe blackouts and several hours of complete paralysis as a result of eating far more than the recommended dose. I am unaware of any severe long term effects....

Psilocybin is the substance that is in the mushrooms.

It is a hallucinogen, Doses range from .25 g-10g.

The mushrooms are actually a soft drug which means that chance of addiction is low, and physical harm is low, but as you know Psilocybin is a Schedule 1 substance on the DEA Controlled Substance Act of 1970. Which means it is illegal, like Cannabis.
