You are probably unable to stop smoking but you must cut down. Smoking prevents oxygen from getting to the alveoli. The process of taking much needed O2 throughout your body is already reduced and the smoking makes it quite a lot worse.

it makes it much worse, smoking is an irritant to your lungs and so is the pneumonia, it'll increase the time it takes to get rid of your infection. and yes theres a P in there

When I had pneumonia, I smoked some........but it hurt so much and was very difficult to do. Of course it's no good for you, but what can you do?

Don't worry about it. Your body knows what it needs.

So if you feel like smoking, go right ahead.

The two consequences to smoking while having pneumonia are that smoke kills the cilia, which are tiny hairs along your respiratory tract, which sweep out mucous produced by the bacteria causing the pneumonia, and smoking decreases the amount of oxygen and carbon dioxide that can be exchanged in the lungs. With pneumonia you ability to exchange theses gases is already comprominsed due to the bacteria and its mucous in the lungs. Because smoke is an irritant it can cause excessive coughing when you have pneumonia and this could lead to inflammmation between the layers lining your lungs and this can be very painful and take a long time to heal.
