If you can't chew and can barely swallow--you need to go lie down and take a nap until your mouth isn't numb anymore and you can chew a little and swallow.

Sounds harsh but if you can hardly swallow you may begin to choke.

You'll feel better after a few hours of rest and then you can have something soft - maybe toast that you fold in half and dunk into hot cocoa.

Get a straw and suck down some tomato soup

soup

milkshake! mmmmm a milkshake, think I'll go get one myself! Very filling and lots of calories!

I had dental work done last week and was very numbed up.But I got hungry sooner than this was better so I just tried soft food, like ice cream (semi softened) or sherbert. The cool feeling of those will help the throat not be so sore. I would try a popsicle if you don't have those handy. When you start to get some feeling back, trying some mashed potatoes in SMALL bite size portions may work. Think of foods that dissolve easy most of all to avoid any choking. IF you can barely open your mouth, sticking to liquids may be best as long as you take LITTLE sips to not have a problem. The numbness wears off sooner than you think if you don't pay too much attention to this. Try to wait until that does but I know how hunger can be a problem when you feel it too. My dentist's office told me I could have stuff like soup.Try ones with clear broth though, not heavy and avoid noodles, etc.
