I had my tonsils out at age 19. It was rough but worth it!
I was never able to stay healthy because my tonsils were so infected, I kept reinfecting myself with the same virus/bacetria over and over.
It was the best thing I could have done for my overall health.
Consider it-- I am so glad I did!

I doubt your doctor would recommend it unless there was a good reason. Ask him to explain to you exactly WHY they need to come out. Most often, it is the adenoids that need to come out. Recurrent infections, ear infections, sinus trouble
are the most common causes for having them out so late.
Wow, having your tonsils out is really out of fashion. S/he must have a good reason.
If I were you, I'd get a second opinion. If Dr. number one is upset with this, go with what Dr. number two says -- I wouldn't want an upset doctor with a knife at my throat!!
But if Dr. number one is understanding, go get that second opinion, then go back to Dr. number one if the second doc says "Yank 'em."
With three kids depending on you, I think you are right to treat major surgery with caution. OTOH, if this is necessary, you may have a lot less suffering after the surgery.

Get them taken out, my dear! They could cause some big problems! (That is what my ENT told me, least ways.)
Strange thing is, mine removed theirselves!
I had my tonsils out when i was younger but I do have to tell you, I would constantly get really sick...but ever since mine came out i've never been better.
But yes please get a second opinion, i don't know what your situation is.
Today it is better having them out than when I was a child. Those were the days of ether a smell you never forget.
What was the reason he gave you for having to get them out? If he never said, I would ask him.
