You won't get a general anaesthetic. It's done under sedation. Most of the time, you will be given an anaesthetic spray to the back of your throat as well. This will mean that post procedure, if your throat has been sprayed that you have to wait a little while before you can eat or drink.
If you are very nervous about it, you could try getting some Rescue Remedy to take before hand (four drops directly into your tongue), which would calm you down.
Hope this helps.

neither....will be sedation.
You can opt for local spray at the back of your throat, if you prefer that.

I had one done without any and it was ok.

Well, if you have been given the choice and you're not squeamish I'd go for local. General will leave you feeling groggy.

I had a local which was from an anaesthetic liquid that numbs your throat - it does not hurt its just uncomfortable and tends to make you gag a bit.

i did 4 long time ago, did [swallow+spray]i have fainting problem so i didn't want to be forced into LA LA land

Local would be best, A general would make you feel bad for a long time after
