Whenever I get the slightest bit sick, I lose a ton of weight. What's happen!

Question: Even with simple things such as the common cold - I'll drop about 10 lbs. or so every week I have it. Last summer I got a strange mix of pink eye/flu, pretty much a supernova of sickness, and it lasted for a month and a half. I came out of it looking like I came fresh out of a concentration camp., I dropped about 60 lbs, off of my 5'11, 180 lb frame. I know I'm not the best eater or exerciser, and my immune system isn't top notch, but the weight loss is bothering me. Is my body trying to tell me something? Is there some sort of serious underlying cause? Also, I typically eat the same foods when I'm sick.

Hmmm. Two ways to influence weight - food input and waste output. So is it one, or the other, or a combination of both?
Are you losing the weight through major water loss (urination, sweating), or losing the weight through major solid loss (diarrhea), or losing the weight from not consuming liquids/solids?
10 pounds is a lot of change - that's 40 sticks of butter, girl. But only 20 glasses of water.
Do you retain water on your monthly period?
Does all of the weight return right after you get well? I cannot tell - seems like you are saying it did not (180 to 120 in 45 days). That is so outside of the norm that I have to agree with the other answerers (above) and with all urgency say go see a good doctor, preferably an internist, right away kiddo. No stalling. I don't want to scare you, but there could be something serious here. Have them do a wide series of blood work, thyroid screening, womens health issues, etc. Any tenderness on your body not felt before? Any shortness of breath? Eating too much sugar? Let's hope it is just some lifestyle adjustments needed on your part, but get a checkup to make sure.
Do some kind of aerobic exercise (fast walk, climb stairs) to get your heart rate up - a minimum of 3 times a week for 30 minutes each time. Start out slow and work up to it.
Got to eat 5 servings of veggies and 4 of fruit EACH Day for me. Drink fruit juice (100% juice, not sugar laden junk) - no soft drinks. Again, since you say this is not your style, work up to it. No McDonalds. No candy bars. You can't change overnight, but you can change - and you will feel better, assuming no underlying medical abnormalities.
God bless...
