Endoscopy under sedation?!

Question: I had an endoscopy yesterday under sedation, and i cannot remember a thing, i have a sore throat (to be expected i suppose) but i also have some purple dots on my face i get when im usually sick so i assume ive been gipping/gagging. I dont know whether i have dreamt it or it really happened but i recall wanting to get to my mouth with my hand but the nurse holding my hand down.
Its starting to freak me out what actually happened in that room now, because oh the dots on my face and these very very vague "flashbacks"
I hate the fact i was awake but i cannot remember anything... i was told by the nurse i was in there 10mins
Do you think i was fighting them off? Will it have hurt me? What usually happens in that room?

I have this done loads of times - usually without sedation. When they do sedate you, it is very light sedation - so you don't lose the entire day recovering and they don't want to sedate more than necessary. It's quite possible you did try to pull the tube out - it is a very uncomfortable experience.

It's also guaranteed that you gagged - it's a reflex, so sedated or not your epiglotus would try to get rid of the obstruction - probably repeatedly.

Don't stress over it - it is a truly unpleasant experience and you were very brave to get it done.

What was the 'endoscopy' for bud, you'll have to give bit detail if ya want proper responses!....

do not panic . everything you describe is perfectly normal . the sedation is meant to make you forget . i done the exact same as you i tried to get the tube out of my mouth . i even took ill when i had mine and was on oxygen and heart machines but i do not remember that . it is what i was told i when i did come to i still had oxygen on . believe me nothing sinister would have happened . if you cannot get rid of the flashbacks talk to your gp . but i am sure it will settle . all the best .

I had one a couple of years back and was awake for it, I was in there about 20 minuets and yes I did gag a lot but was not sick, I was held down but not forced, it made me feel a bit sick and this lasted around 24 hours but all was fine later Good luck with the results

An Endoscopy could not have been performed w/o sedation. What you were given was probably Versid. It is a short-term sedative w/minor side effects.

I had the same procedure and, I too, tried to fight back...it is common. I was given (and probably you too) more of the Versid.

What happens w/an endoscopy is that a tube is inserted down your throat to check for lesions and erosion of your esophagus. Hope all is well.
