What do you think could be the cause of my faintness?!

Question: I know I should talk to a doctor. I don't have insurance currently, and it isn't a major problem for me as it's been going on for a long time.

Anyway, when I stand up I usually feel very faint, and my eyes go sort of black. I also sometimes fall to the ground, although it's usually something I do voluntarily as it makes the faintness go away quicker. This happens almost on a daily basis. I never actually pass out, it's just a lot of faintness.

I've also passed out more often than I'd consider normal. Usually it involves pain, so I've assumed it's just that I have a low pain tolerance.. I slammed my finger in a beverage case and passed out, I fell backwards on the jetty at the beach, and another time I don't really know why it happened. I had cramps and took some pain medication without eating, so I think it may have been that.

My father thinks I may have low blood pressure. What do you think it could be? Thanks for the answers. :]

If your blood pressure is below 90/60 it could be low blood pressure as your symptoms of faintness and actual fainting spells are common symptoms of low blood pressure.

Try taking a prenatal vitamin daily. Your body could be low on some key things. When I was very anemic I had the same problem, so you may also want to get an iron pill and take it daily. Give them 2 -3 weeks to fully kick in. Otherwise you are going to have to see someone. If you are in college go to the student health center and get checked out. If not, look up some free clinics in your area. To test and make sure about the low blood pressure, try getting it done at one of those machines that can be found in most pharmacies. I know CVS and Walmart usually have them. Hopefully your heart would race because you are not at the doctor's office. Good luck!

Before reading your entire question, my first thought was that you have low blood pressure. Try eating something salty first thing in the morning when you wake up. See if that helps (sodium can raise your blood pressure a tiny bit). On the other hand, the fact that you mention there is pain involved worries me greatly. Insurance or not, you should see a doctor.

People faint when they are dehydrated. It leaves them with an inadequate amt. of oxygen in the blood & not enough flows fast enough nor does enough get to your brain. This can cause low blood pressure.

It's called vasovagal syncope.

Google: mayo clinic>>.diseases>>syncope, vasovagal.

Take your weight divide in 1/2 & that's how many ounces of water you need to drink each day.

Sounds like anemia to me. I know you said you don't have insurance, however are there any clinics around you that you can go to? Im not sure where you are from, but every county has a county health department that charges you depending on how much annual income you make (which if its next to nothing, you hardly pay anything at all).
