First sugery?!

Question: Im 14 and having my gallbladder out laparoscopically on Thursday.
I heard they make small incisions, one of them being through the belly button. Will I still have my belly button?? (Yes. Stupid question.) And how will I feel coming out of the surgery? Anyone have any personal experiences to share?? Thanks!

You might feel sick when you wake up from the anesthesia they give you, and your incisions will hurt. Sometimes people complain of shoulder pain after laproscopic surgery b/c air gets into your body when they operate and the little air bubbles go up into your shoulder and have to sort of dissolve before you feel better. I heard that Gas-X actually helps for that! They'll give you some Vicoden or Percoset pain meds too which should help. Your belly button will be fine, you won't even notice the scar in there. If you feel like you want to cough, press a pillow against your belly to help splint the incisions, which will make it more comfortable.

Good luck, feel better!

Everyone reacts differently when coming out of anethesia. I have multiple surgeries and have reacted differently each time. One time, I guess I told everyone who would listen about my knitting hobby. Another time I was really sad and cried. And yet another time, I had no troubles, just pain from the resulting surgery, but no significant reaction to waking up. Don't worry about how you are going to react...the RNs who will be caring for you have seen it all. And as you become more aware in the recovery room, you will witness all kinds of reactions to the medicine. Just rest and go slow. Sometimes anethesia can make you nauseated. I have never had my gallbladder out, but I have had surgery on my kidney...I am sure they will leave you with a belly button. ;) Good luck!
