Is it possible to overcome depression without medication?!

Question: i mean on your own and with no doctors help?

Answers: i mean on your own and with no doctors help?

Depends on severity of the depression. If you have been feeling this way for more than a few weeks, please go see your doctor. And if that doctor isn't helpful, try your OB, try another dr....keep going until you get the help you need.

I remember when I went to a doctor for help...my twins were 9 months old, my daughter was 3...she told me that this was not post-partum (SP?) depression since the babies were too old (yeh, right) and that I needed better coping mechanisms. Ironic, she was newly pregnant...I bet she saw the light that year!

Thank God I continued to seek help through another doctor.

It is humbling to have to ask for this kind of help, but really, it's the best thing to do for YOU and your BABY.

Oh, and by the way, if you have friends and or family members who are new moms, I can guarantee they are probably going through the same thing...just can't talk about yet.

Take care of yourself!

without medication? yes!
without help from anyone? very difficult. i would recommend that you go and see a counsellor. dont struggle on your own.

Yes.go exercise

not sure, I had severe post natal depression with both of my kids and without the support of my doctor, medication and counsellor I don't know how I would have got through it.

light exercise and having a diet rich in selenium and b vitamins is good for depression, I would say it depends on the severity of the condition.

If you do nothing, neither form of depression is likely to just disappear on its own.

Endogenous depression, the biochemical illness, is most successfully treated with medication, of course like any other illness, spontaneous remission does occur. Exogenous depression, which is mainly situational, may resolve if there is a dramatic improvement in the life circumstances of the individual. It is more often treated with CBT rather than medication anyway.

yes, you need support and you need to do something you enjoy, gym etc! talking about your feelings will help too, maybe counselling or your GP. Good luck x

yes it is.
go out do what you love.
If i ever get depressed about anything, i go out play some soccer or cricket.

running helps too.

th best way to come out of depreesion wud be...do Yoga or meditation...talk to peple a lot..do gardening...talk to ur dogs..do exercise...a lov ur self a lot.....:)...u'l see the diff....

I think you can,i had slight post natal depression twice, then again after my marriage broke up and my doctor just kept increasing my prozac intake,i was like a zombie. I realised it was more my situation than what was going on in my head. I moved away and stopped my medication over night and ive never looked back. Not that everyone can move or run away but it was more to do with what was going on around me and other people. That probably doesnt make any sense at all!!! Good luck

You could try St. Johns Wort - a herbal tablet. Plenty of exercise releases the good feeling hormone. some find aromatherapy beneficial, counselling or other talking therapy.
