honestly that sounds like it's not too great. i was just passing by but i thought i would answer because a good friend of mine has the same thing?! only instead of sticking out her chest she hunches/bends forward a bit with both palms pressed where it hurts, i hear a pop, and then she's fine and can breath again.

i don't know if you crack your knuckles but she equated it to when you need to pop a knuckle before you can fully extend the finger, leg, ankle... only it just so happens that the thing she needs to pop is a rib before she can inhale or exhale all the way.

i went with her when she asked the doctor and since we couldn't duplicate the scenario for the doctor, she said that it just sounds like she needs to do some stretches to limber up a bit and she wouldn't have that problem and suggested yoga or a pilates class that kaiser provides. (edit: this is all based on my friend not having any history of back problems, spinal problems, non-smoker, etc etc.)

i don't know if you work out or exercise or jog or anything but perhaps that may work for you, especially if you live in a colder area like we do... seems to mostly happen with her when it's cold or cooling down out.

did u ask a dr or advice nurse?

next time it happens be sure to pay close attention (if you can do so while enduring the pain) to your heartbeat. see if your heartbeat goes irregular or skips or slows or speeds up. pain in the chest is never a good thing. and since you said it's the middle of your chest, that's your sternum... do you have bad posture?? the dr at kaiser mentioned posture also... if you're sitting like a turtle all day long or hunching over a lot, themuscles get set there and when you get up to move around or anything, the muscles are used to being in that position and are tightened there and your moving or extending flexes them in a way that they're getting NOT used to... O_o at that point the dr again recommended yoga, pilates or core strengthening... and work on the posture.
correct supports or innersoles if you work in a place where you're standing for the majority of the time. (they also sell those at kaiser too)

anyway i hope for your sake and the sake of my friend that it is nothing serious.
also please don't substitute what anyone says here for genuine medical advice. if you can manage a trip to the dr or a free clinic to get checked out where a qualified medical professional can give you their expert opinion, i would highly recommend you do that instead.

take care ok?

OMG go to a DR

I get that. It's like a discomfort, then I click my breastbone & it feels better.
I get it with my hips, back, knees & neck too though...

it might be because of a bad back u might have scoliosis go tell a doctor

If you have had this for a year, it probably is not a serious heart attack. You should go see a doc about it tho.

Prolly not heart or lung involement as after a year...you'd likely find it dificult to use a computer if it was serious.
I'd assume its a rib fixation...see a chiro...you may get instant releif.

Maybe one of your ribs is out of place. I don't know, but you mgiht want to go to a doctor or a chiropractor to get it checked out. If it's not that, you probably want to get to a doctor anyway because if it's been a year, it's not going to go away by itself doesn't sound like.

maybe it's an air bubble. if not go in to the doc

trapped nerve take some pain killers or go nto the doc to be sure

not sure. i have the same problem except i dont "click" my chest. i just breath deeply and try to get my mind off it.
id go to a doctor though. how old are you..?? it varies on age.

go to the dr it may be nothing or could be serious just get it looked at

do you have asthma... i do i don;t have the click but i get horrible pains in my chest with i breathe in and out... then when i breathe in and out enough the pain disapears for a while... so it might be something like that but go to the dr and have to checked.

do u smoke? that might be the problem or i have had that and my doctor said it was probably gas

You might have a hernia. See the doc.

It sounds like some bones get a little out of alignment. Probably best to go to a chiropractor. If it ever happens and you can't "click" yourself back into shape to remove the pain, go to ER because just because it's usually bone alignment problems doesn't mean it always will be. Probably good to mention to you doc the next time you see him/her you've been experiencing this for a year. In the meantime, proper posture will do you a world of good.

That's different. Go to your G,p's
