Best way to control snoring?!

Question: I have a bit of a problem; I snore. My wife is upset because the snoring keeps her awake and she is losing sleep. I am upset because she whacks me with her pillow to get me to stop, it wakes me up, and I'm losing sleep.

What is the best over-the-counter snoring remedy I can get? What would be most reccomended?

Don't know if you have a weight problem, but it helped my husband to shed a few pounds to reduce his snoring significantly. He never used any OTC remedies to cure it, so I can't help you with product suggestions.

Tampons.

sew a tennis ball on the back of shirts that you wear to bed....you only snore when youre on your back

I'm sorry to have to tell you that most of the over the counter stuff is garbage, especially the little spring strips that you stick to the outside of your nose.

Consider getting a noise machine for your bedroom. This white noise generator masks the sound of your snoring. Its not very expensive and it really can help.

Lifestyle changes might help. Avoid alcohol, lose weight, etc.

See an ENT doctor. They may refer you for a sleep study. depending on the results, there may be several options.

1) use CPAP. this is a soft mask that fits over your nose while you sleep. A quiet air pump provides a steady supply of humidified and slightly pressurized air to this mask while you sleep. It looks really strange, but it often works. For people with severe sleep apnea, it can be a life saver.

2) There are a variety of surgical options... going from least invasive to most invasive...
a) an injection of a sclerosing agent in the soft palate is designed to cause scarring that tightens the soft palate and stops the snoring viration
b) insertion of plastic rods into the soft palate also increases tension and stops the vibration
c) A uvulopalatopharyngoplasty is the surgical removal of much of the soft palate. Recovery can be annoyingly painful (or "uncomfortable" in doctor-speak)
