Ice chewing causeing anemia??!
Question: ok I love !!!!!!! to chew on ice my ob/gyn YELLED at and told me to stop right now that it would cause anemia I've done some research on this and every thing says that a side affect of animia is ice chewing but ice chewing doesn't cause animia!!! I would like to know does Ice chewing really cause animia????

Your ob/gyn needs to go back to school, it is only a sign and symptom and will not cause the anemia.

Chewing ice (or dirt for that matter) can be a symptom of iron deficiency anemia (it is referred to as "pica" when someone craves foreign objects to chew on when anemic), or (more rarely) of a zinc deficiency.

No, chewing ice does not cause anemia. Anemia is when you have a low iron count in your blood. Generally, because of the low iron, anemics will chew on ice (my mom has always been anemic and LOVES to chew and eat ice)

Ice chewing is also related to thyroid conditions. I wouldn't pay any attention to the anemia thing.
I always heard it was a sign of anemia, not a cause. I don't even know why it is something people with anemia tend to do, weird huh....
