I'm not sure....but I believe it is when the sun is glaring off the snow...the rays from the sun will reflect and if you stare at it long enough it will burn your eyes. I have never known anyone that this has happened to,,,,,I bet it sucks tho.

I found the info below in this link.....

http://www.providence.org/healthlibrary/...

Eyes that are not protected by a mask or ultraviolet (UV) filtering sunglasses can be burned by exposure to the high-intensity light of a welder's equipment (torch or arc) or to bright sunlight (especially when the sun is reflecting off snow or water). The eyes also may be injured by other bright lights, such as from tanning booths or sunlamps. It may take up to 24 hours for the extent of the eye injury to be known.

no clue

Frostbite of the eyeball? They might be blind...

i think its when its cold and windy and your eyes water and become chapped. Like when you're skiing or something. Kind of like licking you lips constantly when it really cold out.

i vaguely know what it is and no i don,t know of anyone whos had it happen

This happened to my son when he was 12 and snowboarding all day with no goggles or anything. The sclara (white) of his eye was so red it looked sunburned. He said his eyes didn't hurt and after a couple of days it cleared up with no lasting problems.

i don't really know but it sounds like maybe snow blindness to me.

Snow blindness occurs because the reflected light off the snow is so bright along with the cold air it drys out your eyes, It is similar to getting flash burn when you watch someone arc welding without protecting your eyes.

It is another expression for "snow-blindness" which is caused by the UV rays in sunlight reflecting off of the snow's surface and damaging your optic nerve by entering through the pupil of your eye.
Have you ever noticed how Eskimo's are squinting, or wearing sunglasses now, skier's goggles usually have a tinted lens, cross country skiers wear shades.......

Dear Myfaeia,
Snow blind/burned is when the UV rays of the sun are reflected off the snow and create vision problems

Snow blindness is caused by UV rays from sunlight reflecting off the surface of snow. It is essentially a sunburn on your cornea.

My husband's grandfather became snowblind when he was stationed in Alaska right after WWII and was hospitalized for it. That is how he met my husband's grandmother.

Ill take a geuss and say its snow blinded Blinded by the brightness of the snow

SNOW BLINDNESS is caused by failure to use adequate eye protection during bright sunshine on snow or light colored rock. The eyes are bloodshot, feel irritated and full of sand. Apply a cool wet compress to the eyes. Then wear two pairs of sunglasses. Aspirin helps the pain. Recovery may take two or three days... Snowblindness is not a permanent condition.

I've never heard of it.

freakytee.... has it right.it is not snow blindness but,but one could end up that way . so it is always good to protect your eyes in the winter . or during water sports.
