GRANNY QUESTiON? Important?!

Question: My grandmother has high blood sugar. She was also diagnosed with alzheimers like a year ago, and her memory is getting worse. Lately she has been eating a lot of sugar (leftover party cake, starbucks, ice cream with reduced fat) and it's way more sugar then I eat and I'm a teenager. Nobody in the family can watch what she eats all day so we don't know what to do

I know this isn't good for her but what could happen if she doesn't stop?? Thnks

Hi, How are you?
Ok, This is very hard as you cannot just tell your grandmother why she cannot have sugar, as she has Alzheimer's. I think you should try, very gently to get her to stop, but not force her as this would make her very unhappy. I really think you should try though, as this could be bad as if she carries on like this.

Maybe you should just get her to cut down on sugar, not just cut it out completely.

I think you should try to introduce healthier foods, such as carrot and celery sticks, fruit that is easy to eat, but not too much fruit as this contains sugar too, but some because it's healthier than cake and ice-cream.

You could alternatively try to get her cake and ice-cream and stuff like that with no sugar, or look for one that says diabetic on the side. This means she can still enjoy the taste of her food, but without the sugar.

I think you should try both options. I think that both have a good chance of being successful.

Good Luck, don't worry, you can make it through this. My Grandpa had Alzheimer's too.

Hope I Helped!

first off u and your family need to keep the sweets away from your grandmother, having high blood sugar is very very serious and since she has Alzheimers your grandmother needs someone to monitor her 24/7, your family may have to contact a home health agency and get her a live-in aide.

It may not be good for her but if it makes her happy, why force her to stop.

I use to work in an old peoples home. Many of the old ladies loved sweet things and that
