Do I have to get a shot when clawed by a cat?!

Question: I got clawed on my finger by an indoor cat. From the tip of the finger to my hand. My finger is burning, is that normal, or do I have to get a shot for it?

you need to clean that! like real good.. household pets carry alot of bacteria in their claws. cats carry alot.. ever watched your cat in the catbox? after they do their nasty they kick it around and make a mess with the litter.. all that crapola is in their nails, and ends up in your cut. You can get very severe infections from that. If its swollen go to the doctor, if you get flu like symptons go to the doctor. clean it with alcohol and dont be a wimp about it really clean it!

It will burn, if it gets any worse consult a doctor.

I have had cats - they all went outdoors. I have gotten pretty bad scratches from time to time, you do not need a shot.
Just make sure you clean the scratch with peroxide & put some neosporin or triple antibiotic ointment and a bandaid on it to keep it from getting infected. You don't want germs getting in there & causing infection.

I think it's normal. It will sting for quite a while, BUT MAKE SURE IT DOESN'T GET INFECTED!!! Cover it up with something (maybe a band aid?). Don't worry, it will heal soon enough. All you have to do is endure the pain for a while and stay well away from cats that will claw you! :)

I don't own a cat but I have seen my sisters cats lick their paws so it stays clean even if they walk on your dirty carpets or floors. The best way to keep any scratches from your animal or yourself is keep the wound dry. Place a band aid for the first 2 days or until the would is scabbed over meaning it stopped bleeding. The more the wound is dry the quicker it will heal. When it burns it means that fresh skin has been exposed. It's the same as if you were using a curling iron to fix your hair and you burn your skin. On any wound if you see any pus, green mucus or if it's still bleeding go get it checked.
