I know two people on Strattera and they are doing really well on it. Both are adults, in school and working full time. They both feel it benefits their lives tremendously. It helps them focus, organize their thoughts, and seems to help their self esteem because they are capable of accomplishing all the things they have set out to do for themselves. For them the side effects have been minimal and it is worth some discomforts for them to take it.
They have said that that medication can cause nervousness in some and sleepiness in other people. It can make some people feel "foggy" while it provides clarity for others. So it's very hard to know how it will effect you and how you will react to it.
Whatever you take, look up the side affects on line and talk to your doctor about them. There are often ways they can adjust the doses to work for you or switch to another med all together.
I'm hoping that this particular couple of friends won't have to take it forever but just temporarily. I don't know how that will work out for them.
Every single thing you put in your mouth, medication or not, has a side effect to your body one way or another. I think you are right to take time and think carefully about how it will make a difference to your life and your body. Good luck to you.

depends what medication ur taking...im on ritalin and im fine, it may cuz u to be sleepy and lose an appetite

Sort of tough to name side effects when you don't say what drugs he prescribed?? However, the following may help:

Concerta Side Effects:
In the clinical studies with patients using CONCERTA?, the most common side effects were headache, stomach pain, sleeplessness, and decreased appetite. Other side effects seen with methylphenidate, the active ingredient in CONCERTA?, include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, nervousness, tics, allergic reactions, increased blood pressure and psychosis (abnormal thinking or hallucinations).

Ritalin Side Effects:
Nervousness and insomnia are the most common adverse reactions but are usually controlled by reducing dosage and omitting the drug in the afternoon or evening.

Other reactions include hypersensitivity (including skin rash, urticaria, fever, arthralgia, exfoliative dermatitis, erythema multiforme with histopathological findings of necrotizing vasculitis, and thrombocytopenic purpura); anorexia; nausea; dizziness; palpitations; headache; dyskinesia; drowsiness; blood pressure and pulse changes, both up and down; tachycardia; angina; cardiac arrhythmia; abdominal pain; weight loss during prolonged therapy.

Allergic reactions: skin rash, hives, drug fever joint pains possible. Headache, dizziness rapid and forceful heart palpitation-infrequent.

Strattera Side Effects:
Upset stomach, decreased appetite, nausea or vomiting, dizziness, tiredness, decrease in appetite, some weight loss, and mood swings were the most common side effects.

In rare cases, Strattera can cause allergic reactions, such as swelling or hives, which can be serious. Your child should stop taking Strattera. Call your doctor or healthcare professional if your child develops any of these symptoms.

The last 2 links below are natural treatments. I particularly favor the last one because they aren't trying to sell anything.

im on concerta and im fine but sometimes i feel tired and get headachs.
