Shortage of health care workers.....?!

Question: I am in my 40's and I'm thinking of going into the health care profession. Should I take that leap? Would it be worth it at my age? Also, what field?

You'll have decades more to work, so yes, if you've got what it takes, go for it.
I have no idea what your strengths are, what you're willing to sacrifice, etc. However, start at your local community college and see what they offer. Anything from:

nurse
nuclear med tech
x-ray tech
sonography
and more are all in the med field and pay well. Beware that you are NOT necessarily done in 2 years as these are programs with limited seats so you probably will have to do your pre-reqs FIRST and if you went with nursing there will be a waiting list on top of that in all likelihood.

Good luck.

at 40 I took the 10 month care-aide course and I found that it was worth it, there are many fields that need more workers ...to that jump to mind are working with seniors and there is a big lack of trained workers for autistic children

Any field is currently in high demand, especially nursing. Even in my field, X-Ray, we've got some new students at our facility this year who are in their 50's. Your best best would be to contact the local community college or look up thier website, since most health care fields are 2-yr programs, and check out what is offered. Then do some research in those fields to see if anything appeals to you.

Once you find something, find out if your local hospital or clinic has any kind of job-shadowing program to check it out in real life. Lots of people want to do X-rays, but once they find out it also involves giving people barium enemas get scared off. So do some research and go for it, you won't regret it.
