Can't sleep no matter what I do! Help?!

Question: I love night. It's so much better than day to me. If I wake up at 10 am, I wont be semi-tired until 6 am -

I'll go to bed at 6 am and wake up at 10 or 11 and the process continues... any way to fix this? I work usually 3 - 9 but It's got my parents on my case for being up all hours of the night.

gahhh!!

I work the night shift and it has helped me in the past to take melatonin to help sleep. This is the chemical that is inhibited by sunlight. It is what controls many of the sleep inducing feelings you get when it isn't light out. Ever feel that burst of energy when the sun comes up after an all nighter? Thats the melatonin. It is an over-the-counter supplement, and cheap (3.50) at GNC or whole foods or what have you. I might also suggest kava as a nice chill-down-relaxer after work (whole foods, more expensive at 10-20 dollars). Also, laying off the caffeine and sugar 3-5 hours prior to when you want to bunk down is a good plan. If you don't want to sleep, I suggest socks and being not as annoying to the folks;)

Here's the wiki on melotonin (it's a pretty cool drug).

you probably have insomnia. different strategies work for different people. look insomnia tips up online and try a new one every day. i use the homedics sound spa.

try going to sleep at around 3 and wake up at six. then later you will be more tired so slowly your biological time will adjust. good luck!

Just try to get back into the normal routine, like try to get in bed at like 10:00 and read/watch tv. Then go2 bed around 11:00/11:30. Try to take a nice hot bath b4 bed it will really relax you.

Well, if you aren't tired when you wake up - then you're good. I stay up late and I sleep in til 11am when I work the PM shift also. Totally normal! If you worked dayshift - it would be totally different. Maybe just try to be quiet during the night - so they don't hear you! Use head phones when you play those video games! ;)

Don't drink caffeine or eat sugar for like 5 hours before you want to go to bed!!! That's what keeps me up :)
