Will i lose the desire to drink alcohol?!

Question: I had been a problem drinker for 18 years getting in trouble , DUI's, and what made me stop were a series of health problems, namely an inflammed, bleeding stomach that caused horendous pain everytime i drank!! Ive been sober for 2 weeks(very long for me)and i wanna know will i ever feel comfortable without wanting a drink to numb myself and feel happy and well? I come from a family of drinkers and i believe i am an alcoholic, cause i read the signs and they are all there!! Also, is there any AA support groups/chats online for people trying to abstain?? Thanks a lot!!

You've done the hardest part. You may always want a drink, so you need to fill your life and empty times with brain games or running (exercising). Build up the body you have abused -- and known that not ever person will be on your side -- and that is when you call your sponsor. Stay away from the old haunts where you lost yourself in drink.

My dad quit, but the desire never left him. He just didn't give in to it. My mom quit, and has never wanted another glass -- she knows it was a blessing -- she hated the way she felt, hated being out of control.

So, become a control freak about the neatness in your life, and keep a journal. In a few years you may be able to use that in your work or writing.

Bless you and I'm on your side!

i gave up smoking 18yrs ago now i have togive up alcahol just like you so lets do it together old son and see how it goes hang in there i have a doting wife to help me hope you have someone to help you email me if you need any reassurance as you i come from a family of drinkers even on my wifes side try a party and try not to drink let me know REGARDS

WELL DONE !!!!!! its so hard to break an addiction!!!
its even harder to keep off it, but dont let that put you off! unfortunately, you'll also need to make some changes to your lifestyle too, to avoid senarios where you may be tempted !
take up a new interest, it doesn't have to cost anything. you could try walking, watercolour painting, reading, cycling, volunteer work, juggling ANYTHING !!!
YES , you will be happy again, its early days yet, so dont forget you are going to have bad days, but there will be more better days, and then good days !
im sure someone knows a website for AA type groups.
and i know there'll be so many people cheering you on and wishing the best for you!!!!! so keep up the good work, and if you get over whelming urges to slip into bad ways, - STOP! count to 20, and just get on this website, we'll all be supporting you !!!!
