Quitting drinking causes the depression he was medicating with the alcohol. It is known people feel badly when they 1st stop, though the alcohol stays in your system for about 1-6 months.
Depression is very common in early recovery. He's grieving the loss of the bottle also...it was always there when he needed it.

Try to reinforce with him the reason he decided to stop after so long. If it was health related, he's stopped damaging his body now.

Try to get him to a psychiatrist to help him deal with the withdrawal & the depression. Try to be supportive.

Maybe you ought to try Alanon to help you thru this period in your life.

Good luck to both of you.

YES..IT DO..BUT WHAT IS THE ALTEERNATIVE, DEAR?

TELL THE DOKTA YA NEED A TONIC LIKE PROZAC, TO HEAL THAT LIVER .

He's having DTs, Delirium Tremors. That means his body is reacting to a withdrawal of a drug, Alcohol. He needs to see a Dr. or go to rehab. It is serious when people start talking about suicide and he is talking about suicide. Get him help (ER or Rehab) before he follow through with his thoughts
