Sounds like a cold sore or herpes simplex. The virus lives in the nerves that supply the mouth and comes in and out of dormancy. Reactivation is common with stress.

There is no way to get rid of it completely but antiviral drugs (ointment or pills) can speed up healing. Ask your doctor for a prescription.
