When people get "High" off of cough medicine it isn't the alcohol that is getting them wasted... It is the Dextro-something-or-other that does it... Not the booze...
If your giving C.M. to a child then it is not a positive thing but as long as you don't give them enough to get them high off the OTHER ingredients then it isn't really damaging...
The only negative thing about alcohol when you are sick is that it dehydrates you and when you are sick you need ALL the fluids you can get...
Oh, and if your a drug addict or alcoholic then you should avoid this type of cough medicine at all costs... It is NOT condusive to your recovery!!
So yeah... Over all, the alcohol in c.m. isn't a bad thing... I'm not exactly sure why it is even in there at all but I can't think of it being a "Bad" thing.
Most 'home remidies' consist of honey, lemon, and whisky or burbon and you would have more booze in that shot then in a couple tablespoons of c.m.
Alcohol is never good. Use the normal kind or you could get drunk on medecine. lol
If you gave it to a baby, yeah, but it's such a tiny amount. As long as you only take as much as you're supposed too, it's fine.
not if you take the recommended/perscribed amount. theres only a little bit of alcohol in it and thats just the way cough syrups are
but if you like...chug the whole thing then it can be bad.
This is solely a matter of opinion. If someone is very gunghie about alcohol then the tiny amount in a bottle of cough syrup may bother them. The best cough syrup around is to take a lemon wedge and suck it down, then drink some honey, and then take a shot of whiskey. The lemon stretches your vocal cords where a lot of the mucus builds up that makes you cough. This allows the mucus to come off easier when you do cough. The honey coats your vocal cords and throat so they do not get raw from all of the coughing. It also holds in some of the whiskey which will numb any pain that is there fro m existing coughing. Many of the Southern Baptists I grew up around wouldn't here of this method though.
For the average person alcohol in cough medicine is fine, but, it would not be good for a recovering alcoholic for obvious reasons.
