How much pain is it to get mole removed?!

Question: One that is the size of a nickel...and does placement matter?

Answers: One that is the size of a nickel...and does placement matter?

Placement will matter. A nickel sized mole is pretty big so freezing or cautery will not be an option. Whomever is doing the procedure will use local anesthesia to make the area numb, they will excise the mole and place sutures to hold the wound closed until it heals (5-14 days depending on location). If the mole is on your face or someplace especially delicate (eyelid, genitalia, etc.), I would recommend that you have a plastic surgeon remove it. If it is in an area with a lot of movement, like near a joint, it my be a bit more painful after it is removed because the movement will irritate, pull, and stretch the wound. Often an antibiotic ointment can be applied to keep the area soft a pliable until it heals. You won't need anything more than Tylenol after the removal in most cases. Many times the docs will use absorbable sutures, so there is nothing to remove and even if there are sutures to remove, suture removal generally has minimal pain, usually just a little tugging and pinching.

I had some moles removed and it was a little uncomfortable. It was worth it all the way! I would do it.

omj. a nickel?! is that possible? is there hair growing off it. ewwwwwwww. do you shave or wax it?

It hurts to get a wart frozen off. A lot. but it is worth it cause they are very unsightly. It isn't terrible, it just stings a lot. But 10 minutes of pain is worth a years worth of self confidence.

It's sorta a lot of pain
depending on how sensitive
you are. My mom got hers removed
and she said it was a lot of pain for
her, but it's worth it.

Well, let me tell you I was in for a bit of a shock when I went to have one the size of a pencil eraser removed off my arm. I honestly don't know how I "thought" they were going to remove it, but the way they did was surprising. First, they deadened it, then he cut like a diamond shape around the mole and took that "plug" of skin out. Then he stitched me up. I can't say anything actually hurt, I was just shocked that there was so much involved in it. The shot might sting a little bit. I would make a visit and ask how exactly they are going to remove it...just so you don't have any surprises!

Ask the doctor for a local anesthetic before the procedure, and it will not hurt at all. just a little sore afterward.

It is going to depend where on your body the mole is located. Because nerve endings have different reactions in different parts of your body, if you were to get a mole removed on say the back of your calf, it would hurt less than your inner thigh or arm.

I had a small mole removed on the back of my calf (just a small dark freckle really). They removed a lot more of the skin around the mole than I thought they would have. It was uncomforable, but not painful.

Ask them for some meds. I'm sure they'll be happy to do that.

By all means do not let the pain be your guide. Get the mole removed. I had a friend that died of skin cancer at 34. He left behind an 8 year old son. Pretty sad.

i had 3 moles removed without any pain....they numb the area before doing the procedure and the only thing i felt was the pulling of the stitch but it didn't hurt...good luck and don't be scared....it is worth it ...btw mine where on my back.
