I have heard that it is not painful.
I did it without anesthesia and found it a little uncomfortable at times, but no big deal. My girlfriend just had one. She was put out and didn't feel a thing. No worries!
Not to worry. No pain at all. They put you to sleep.
One little needle stick for the IV and that's it. Use the IV for the stuff to put you to sleep. You'll be in and out in less than 2 hours. And, no discomfort afterwards.

The Colonsocopy isn't painful, however the stuff they make you take beforehand can be rather disgusting. For my husband's procedure they gave him an amnesiatic anethestic. He was so annoying yet funny at the same time coming out of it. He ended up going through a whole large pizza afterwards cause he was so hungry. It is actually a physically painless procedure. The worst part is the night before, when you have to drink nearly a gallon of a product (usually 'Go-Lytely') which cleans your colon out, (and isn't a 'lyte' experience!). The procedure itself is not painful, just embarrasing, basically. It will not take more than about 15-20 minjutes, and you go home afterwards. It honestly isn't a big deal, it is just awkward. Relax....that's the most important part, before and during! I HIGHLY suggest you go to youtube.com and serch for 'colonoscopy', and watch a few of them, if you can handle looking at another persons inner realm. Don't worry-- they aren't disgusting or gross, just medical. If you can handle watching Dicovery Channel or TLC, you can handle these (remember-- the peoples colons have been 'cleaned out' from the fomula they had to drink). These videos will give you a much better understanding of the procedure and what they are looking for.
