I've been dealing with high blood pressure for a few years now and I think the main reason that your blood pressure is going up during colds is because you are probably taking cold medicine which is known for raising blood pressure. Luckily there is now some over the counter cold medicine like Coricidin HBP that is made specifically for people with high blood pressure.

Also, anytime you get upset or stressed out it forces your heart to work harder and thus cause your blood pressure to rise. Good luck lowering it!

I don't know.. the same thing happened to me when I was having personal problems and laryngitis. The doc was ready to put me on medication, but when I went home for a visit, it went back down.
I think that it's a natural response kind of like adrenaline that will keep your body running when you're not physically or emotionally able to handle it on your own.
