It depends. Some shavings creams contain moisturizers or other chemicals to soothe the skin.

Pulling a razor across the skin irritates it, can cut it, etc. The shaving cream is a lubricant to help the razor glide over the skin.

Also, I've heard that shaving cream helps to raise the whiskers up a lttle more so that you get a closer shave. I don't know this to be true but I've always heard it is the case.

It just makes the razor glide easier so you don't cut yourself.

it makes the hair grow biger

Some do have moisturizers in them that help to soothe the skin becasue lets face it running a razor over your skin does cause some damage. The prupose however is to get the hairs to stand up so that the razor can cut them closer to the skin. Sometimes it cuts so close that the skin actually grows over the hair follicle which causes the little red bumps or ingrown hairs you get after shaving. I have found that using conditioner works well for shaving sensitive areas.

It softens the whiskers and lubricates the skin so the razor will cut the whiskers and not your face...Wet your face with hot water before applying shaving cream, works better.....XXX

it helps so you don't get razor burn and makes your legs or under arms soft

It cleans & lubricates the skin
