What antibiotic was I given?!

Question: I went to the ER for a severe bladder infection and bladder spasms. I was given an injection of an antibiotic (they did not tell me what it was called), which burned very badly. The hospital said they mixed the antibiotic with lidocaine because the medicine tends to sting. I had terrible dead arm afterwards, and could not move my arm at all. I remember trying to put my coat on and having to have someone help me because my arm was just limply hanging at my side. Anyway, I was just wondering if anybody has any idea what medicine I was given? They wanted to put the shot in my butt, but me being as scared of needles as I am, insisted they put it in my arm. Probably a bad move.

It was probably ceftriaxone and it should have been given in your glut. The ER was being kind, some docs are afraid of alergic reaction to lidocaine and give it plain. They both burn, but with lidocaine the burning stops. When I worked in the ER and docs ordered it for kids, I refused to give it unless it was with lidocaine.

It was the lidocaine that made your arm go numb. If you want to know what the antibiotic was, get your hospital records.
