Steady, constant headache with sparkles during pregnancy?!

Question: It's not a migraine in terms of pain and sensitivity to light( believe me, I am WELL acquainted with those kinds of migraines), but I've had this headache for about 3 weeks. It's kind of a dull pain, nothing I can't live through~ but the sparkles are getting more pronounced and starting to affect my vision. Any ideas/advice?

Hi,

A few concerns......

(I had been a health care provider for over 15 years until I had a head injury, so, this is partially where some of my knowledge is coming from---both being a health care provider, and dealing with VERY frequent migraines for over 3 years now....)

I would wonder....could they be "atypical migraine"....for instance. I have migraines...not all of them am I nauseas or sensitive to light. Some, I can deal with without medications, others, I THINK I am doing ok, but, then I realized I gave the st. bernard the german shepard's medication as well as the st. bernard's medication....(luckily, he had dropped half of it, and they were not the same pills, so he just got an allergy tablet that day that he didn't regularly take...but, had taken before, so I knew it was safe for him....but, I had NO IDEA I had done it until the other dog was looking at me like I did something wrong....).

The reason I ask about it being an "atypical migraine" (which just means a migraine other than your normal one) is because I sometimes get sparkley things in my vision during a migraine.

BUT....I would be more concerned that you have had it for 3 weeks now. You haven't had any SPINAL NEEDLES in the last month have you?? Dural puncture headaches can do this too...and can be quite bad (had that from a bad reaction after spinal anesthia, but a lumbar puncture can do it too). A detatching retina or DIABETES could ALSO be a concern, so could HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE.

IF you haven't I would definitely recommend getting checked out SOONER rather than later.....a few of these could be pregnancy related (usually/actually, what I mean, is brought on by BEING pregnant....but, should be brought under control as soon as possible to help keep the pregnancy safer).

I hope this helps....again, just some ideas/concerns. (ps, please forgive any grammar/spelling/or if I used a wrong word---I am currently fighting a migraine now). Good luck to you, feel better.

I'm not pregnant, but that's the kind of headache I get when I'm dehydrated. Maybe try to drink more water

You could be dehydrated, make sure that you keep your water intake up. Plain water, not anything with caffeine, that will not help.

You could also have a pinched nerve in your back or neck that is causing the problem. You really need to be discussing this with your doctor, if drinking more water does not help, headaches that continue for weeks at a time are generally not a good thing, pregnant or not.

Sometimes headaches can be caused by a vitamin deficiency, such as low iron, which will interfere with your circulation.

Speak to your doctor to be sure, you should not have to deal with a constant headache at any time, and especially while you are pregnant.

Good luck. Hope you get the help you need soon and will be feeling better.

Yes go see your doctor immediatly! It's sounds like you have high blood pressure which could lead to pre-eclampsia. Please don't take this lightly you need to see your doc as soon as possible (ie Today) you and your child are at risk here.

Good luck
James

My wife had pre-eclampsia and everything did turn out ok, but it could quite as easily gone very wrong. If you have headaches and it's affecting your vision even if you're not pregnant you need to see the doc, but as your body is trying to supply blood to another person as well, things can degenerate very quickly. Good luck with at the docs today, hope everything works out well for you.
