Is it true that when you go outside with your hair wet that you will catch a col!

Question: or any other illness for that matter?

Answers: or any other illness for that matter?

In order for you to catch a cold from being cold is if you spend enough time outside to lower your core body temperature thus compromising your immune system (being able to fight off infection at a normal level), then you'd actually have to have the virus around (from another person) to catch it. So, not really. If your around a virus that your not immune to already, you'd catch it despite wet hair or no jacket or whatever your grandmother would have you believe.

N-O thats so overdramatic

no all that you can get is split ends

Nope, I do it to this day and I'm 50! I rarely get sick!

nah but it'll freeze mine did!

ohh ya well like when you get right out of the shower and your hair is wet. Best advice is get a hat or beanie

i think it can cause a cold but i dont think you will get one for deffo

yes, it happened to me
after taking a shower i went outside in cold weather for about an hour, and the next day i had a stuffy nose and a headache
i would not recommend going outside with wet hair

your pores are open..yes you can get a cold!!!!!!!!!

No, its an old wifes tale. Although you loose most of you heat from your head so you should wear a hat to keep warm. Also you loose alot of heat from your mouth so you should breathe through your nose when its cold out.

It's not a sure thing that you will, but I've heard you're more likely to catch one.
Or maybe just get a headache - I always do, but that's just me.

A cold is a virus, so you don't get it from cold air. You get a cold by someone else that has the germs, and they get on your hands. You could get hypothermia, though, if you go outside in the cold with wet hair, or any wet clothes. You also could get a sore throat, ear aches, several things. Best to dry your hair before going outdoors in the cold, for your health.

you wont get a cold from the cold but when you do do this when the wind comes by it will mix with your wet hair lowereing your body temperature which lowers your immune system from being protected from different bacteria and viruses.

Well one time I just literally got out of a shower threw my clothes oin without drying my hair and walked outside into below freezing weather, so cold that my hair froze (I know it frozen because I could bend my hair at an angle and it would stay in perfect place) after seconds of walking outside, and I didn't cautch a cold. DOes that answer your question?

No, unless your exposed to a sick person or have been around one recently. If your immune system isn't good, possibly, but you'd have to be exposed to a virus. If your outside with wet hair, your immune system may be impaired but its more likely your already incubating a bug and the exposure to the cold lets it loose.

no, colds are caused by viruses. Viruses have nothing to do with the weather being cold. You get them by physically touching something or inhaling something that has the viral particles in it.

This is a common old wive's tale, but no. You can only catch a cold from an infection, meaning the cold virus must enter your body. Going out with wet hair has nothing to do with that.

The only reason cold weather is associated with getting sick is because there is a higher rate of infection during the winter months. Why? Because people stay indoors more often and are in closer quarters.

No. Not true.

No. Germs must be present and do not survive in the cold. This was once believed since most people became sick in the colder months. it was assumed the cold weather was to blame. Actually it is because people spend less time out side and are around more germs which are incubating in doors where the windows are closed and the heat is turned up.

pores are open and you will get sick like a cold no other illness...

Actually, colds aren't caused by cold weather, as most people think. Colds are caused by contagious viruses. People just get them in cold weather more often since you're inside with other people more than in the summer or nice weather.
Even if you can't catch a cold, it's still pretty freaking cold to go outside with wet hair =P. And It'll freeze, which really sucks. But I go outside every day with wet hair, and it's not bad for your health (Although cold!!) Hope I helped =)

happens to me all the time

nope. I do it all the time and I rarely get sick.

A cold is from a virus and going outside naked and wet can not give you a cold, to get a cold you have to come in contact with someone who has the virus and is still contagious. It is not a great idea to go out into the cold weather with your hair wet, but a cold is not what you will get. All you can be sure of getting if you go outside in the cold with wet hair is 10 dummy points.

I have gone outside with wet hair in the dead of winter often and haven't had a problem, but I'm usually wearing a hat or touque of some kind to prevent heat loss from my head. I wouldn't spend too much time outside with wet hair however as it does mean a higher loss of heat from your head, your hair will freeze and can break easily, etc.

Keeping your head and ears covered is important however, whether hair is wet or dry. If my ears aren't properly covered I will get headaches when outside for a longer period of time.

No. The worst thing that can happen is that you can get split ends. [ It happened to me once before ] And if you get split ends just use special shampoo that helps split end. And another thing that happends is you will just freeze your BUTT off! :] There is a rare chance that you will get a cold. The only way that you can catch a cold is if you catch it from somebody else who has it. Or by passing germs on something that someone who is sick touches, and then you touch after them and then rub your eye with the germs on your hand. Hope that answered your question.

no

Until recent, it was thought not to. But studies now show that yes it can provoke an onset of a infection!

Not directly. Colds and the flu are caused by viruses, not by a cold wet head. However, I believe chilling your body like that (a cold head screws up your body's thermostat) can weaken your immune system and make your more susceptible to catching bugs.
