Identify what makes you anxious. Is it a specific thing or is it kind of free floating anxiety that just hits from no where? If it's specific, like social anxiety, for example, then you might want to read some books or check out some reputable websites and practice some of the exercises they suggest. There are quite a few anxiety workbooks out there for the more free floating anxiety, but if you can identify a trigger then you can sometimes alleviate the source of the anxiety.

Anxiety is an awful feeling. It puts you on full alert and often you feel like you'd do anything to get rid of the feeling. So meds are a great thing to deal with that. But then you never really learn to cope with the feelings and maybe get rid of them for good.

One thing that works is to learn some relaxation techniques. There are quite a few breathing techniques and others and if you practice them when you aren't anxious, then you are more likely to be able to use them when you are anxious. If you wait to learn the techniques til you're anxious, then often you're too anxious to do them properly and it doesn't work so you then think they will never work. But they do.

Avoid caffeine. Eat well. Exercise, exercise, exercise. If you start to feel anxious, start to exercise, go for a walk and the nervous energy gets transferred to the aerobic needs of your body.

It is possible to do it without meds or to at least cut them way way down. Be sure if you go off your meds to do it slowly and with a doctor's help because a lot of those are addictive and you can set yourself up for failure if you go off too quickly.

Good LUck!

Breathe and face the fear=]

I had those a few months back... and it scared the crap out of me. Now, when they happen I don't really notice and they go away fast. Don't give into whatever fear is taking hold of you. Accept you're afraid, ask yourself why your afraid of it and face it, and don't get paranoid and exaggerate what could be happening.

Take a deep breath and remind yourself that you can get through whatever it is, and that everything will be okay, because the world is going to keep spinning. Try to keep a more relaxed life style so that you don't have lots of stress and running around to do.

Hope that helps.

look up St John Wort,
its natural and my sister did great on it. And thinking out what your fears are and tackel them one at time. Set goals and work on most important first. Also food additives can cause some problems, study what your eating you can change for better. McDonalds just paid out a law suit for some ingredient that was not correctly listed in frenchfries! So thats a plan to work on, get proper rest and nutrition and I feel soon you will be a lot better.

Being a pharmacist, I suppose I should be espousing medications. And for some people they can provide relief, while they acquire the skills needed to deal with them in a non-drug way. But far too many use the drugs and refuse to confront the underlying issues.

Ultimately, everybody is different. There is no 'one' best way.

Try slowing and controlling your breathing when you feel an anxiety attack coming on. It also helps to do breathing excercises. I know this sounds a little crazy but I have been on meds and started therapy about a year ago and although meds can help, the breathing is very helpful not in preventing the attack, but keeping it from getting worse once it has started. If you can see a therapist that can explain all of this in detail and work with you I would recommend it. Good luck!
