How to tell when you have a kidney infection?!

Question: The lower part of my back hurts and it's hard for me to stand up. It doesn't feel like a muscle, or that I slept wrong. It feels as thought the pain is deeper inside. I've had a kidney infection before, but it was after I had a urinary tract infection, so I had other symptoms as well.

How can you tell if you have a kidney infection and what are the symptoms? This feels exactly how it felt before except without the UTI. Is it common to get kidney infections without having a UTI first?

This exact thing happened to me. I woke up one morning and my lower back on my right side hurt so bad I couldn't stand up straight. I called my doctor and she thought I had gall stones, so I went in for some tests. She eventually just sent me to the emergency room and after some tests they realized I had a bad kidney infection, although I had no UTI symptoms. The emergency room doctor put me on some antibiotics. Tasted horrible, but I guess they worked. Good luck!

EDIT: They told me I got the kidney infection from a UTI that I didn't show any symptoms from. Since it didn't show any symptoms, I let it progress so much it ended up in my kidneys.

hurting or burning when peeing, and or lower back pain, sometimes cloudy urine or darker than normal
and sometimes fever
can be all or only afew of these
see a doctor if you think you do for a urine sample
