How to get a sleeping pattern?!

Question: I cannot sleep when I need to be asleep and I basically pass out when I should be awake. How do I stop this crazy cycle?

Go to sleep & wake up the same time every day.
Use your bedroom only for sleep & intimacy.

Begin a consistent bedtime routine that is calming. Take a hot bath, drink chamomile tea. Take passionflower, valerian root, catnip, lavender spray (all good for sleeping.) Don't exercise less than 3 hrs. before bedtime.

If you can't fall asleep after 20 min.; get out of bed & read something boring, watch TV, etc...when you start to feel tired try going to sleep again. Repeat if necessary.
DO NOT look at clocks during night, it will just get you more anxious about not sleeping.

Good luck to you & sweet dreams!

I had the same problem when I started working my 12 hour night shift job. You have to force yourself to stay up longer and longer gradually during the times you are supposed to be awake. When you are exhausted during your supposed "wake cycle", set your alarm for a set period of time, and take a nap. When you are supposed to sleep, eliminate stimulants 2-3 hours before going to bed. Follow a regular routine before going to bed. Decide what time is bedtime for you, and stick to it. If you wake up early, don't give up. It takes a while to get your sleep pattern changed.
