My sister has a fever - increasing rapidly?!?!

Question: My sister has become ill overnight. She start vomiting last night, was fine until about noon today until she became very very sick. She's been sleeping most of the day. She developed a fever. Now, her temperature has been rising since 2 hours ago. An hour ago it was 101.3 now it is 102.6
I'm very concerned for her, fevers are not suppose to present and progress this quickly are they?

Sounds like she has the Noro virus. Fever can go up quickly.

Give her 2 Advil, Aleve or Tylenol every 4 hours to reduce fever.
Put a cold compress on her forehead. Let her take a cool washcloth and wipe her armpits.

If she's keeping things down, she needs to get rehydrated. Give her Gatorade, room temp. Ginger ale, Coke, suck on ice chips, if she can tolerate it give her water.

If her fever goes over 103* take her to ER.

Otherwise let her rest & eat bland foods like plain toast, rice, noodles, baked potatoes,Jello, applesauce, etc.

That is fairly typical for a fever. She should have fluids and acetaminophen.

I am an RN. The sources give more information.

No. Put ice on her head
and get a glove and start putting rubbing alchohol on her
it will cool her down

hope she gets better
10 points? jkjk

make sure drinks plenty of water too, put a cool wet rag on her forhead.

fevers for some reason will go up in the afternoon. If she hasn't been given any acetominophen or motrin the fever will continue to rise more than likely.
