Panic attacks while trying to fall asleep?!

Question: Last night (and this has happened to me before, not JUST last night), I would try to fall asleep.. and just before I'd drift off, my heart would do a little flip-flop... and then I'd have to pop my eyes open because I'd have the strangest sensation that I was dying. Would you call this a panic attack? What could be the cause of something like this??

Yep!! IT IS CALLED MITRAL-VALVE PROLAPSE and it can be regulated through medicine and a few lifestyle changes. Ask your doctor to test you for it. (Basically a heart flutter where the valve open and closes abnormally, symptoms usually appear when you lie down. Like....I could feel my heart beating and it was so hard it felt like it was moving the bed, the jerking thing that you did, and tired all of the time.)

OMG...I know what you are talking about! I have had it happen a lot here lately! Hope someone on here knows what to do about it...I could use the advice too! Just to let you know, you're not alone!

Yep .. panic attack. I've "been there" done that .. I know how freaky they can be, not to mention really scary! Paxil has helped tremendously, as well as counseling.

Best wishes ...

idk but jsut try to be as relaxed as possible

It could be a heart arrhythmia or sleep apnea. It sounds similar to a something my mom went through, in which she was eventually diagnosed with sleep apnea. It could also be your subconcious, you never know.

Go talk to your doctor. It never hurts to be safe.

bre i got those to u start thinkin of other things than sleepin do u have add

yes i would say you are having panic/anxiety attacks. i would schedule an appointment to see your doctor. he will probably prescribe you a low dose of xanxa or something in that field to help relax you.

It might not be a panic attack, I get the same thing after exercising too soon after eating. not totally sure what happens but I felt like it was my heart for ages, but after it happened a few times I was certain it was just my wind pipe, maybe linked to indigestion. I sometimes get short of breath for a few seconds after it. Some problems associated with exercise are also felt through just being really tired in general, maybe you were really worn out.
