I am an alcoholic????!!!!!?!

Question: I am 32 years old, as of today... I started drinking on a daily basis about a year and a half ago. I usually only drink at night, but I have anywhere from 2 glasses of wine to 8 shots of vodka. I am in college and have a 3.5 GPA and everything in my life is under control..... ecsept for the drinking at night. I wanna stop, but I just keep telling myself, oh I will stop tomorrow, or on Monday...... I am really afraid that I have done so much damage to myself in the 1 1/2 years that I am already so ill that it won't matter. I feel fine, but I'm afraid. Please advise.

You are probably an alcoholic already and if not you soon will be unless you change your lifestyle.

Call Alcoholics Anonymous. If you go to the meetings you will get help.

yes, call AA

YES!!!
You have an addiction. If you can't stop, that is an addiction.

you're 32 and in college? Just curious

If you feel bad about your behavior then it's wrong. A glass of wine a night would be fine, but 2 is borderline, and 8 shots is horrible (per night). You could be a binge drinker and the fact that you are asking this question shows you are doing something that is not good for you.

That would be like me asking Am I fat? I eat McDonalds sometimes 3 times a day, sometimes 2 and sometimes I eat it 5 times a day. Am I fat or Am I unhealthy? Not trying to be a smart a$$ here, just trying to get it to make sense. Not sure if I succeeded.

CAll your local AA.

your post is textbook alcoholism arguments. if alcoholics anonymous is available and interests you, go before you take another drink.

it works if you work it so work it your worth it!!

Yes, you very well may be. Other than calling AA, there should be a group at the college for support as well.

If you are doing most of this if not all of it at night, you need to thin of other things to do before bed or to wind down. Watching a movie, taking a walk, a hot bath, something other than picking up that glass.

Your GPA does not matter, but the fact that you have already damaged it so it wont matter is minimizing, and a characteristic of addicts.

Trying going to a local AA meeting and just listen. Maybe you'll find an answer for you. Or try not drinking for at least 3 nights and see how you feel on the 4th morning. Daily drinking is probably a good indicator of alcoholic tendencies but you may want to think of why you started drinking nightly in the first place. Was there something that set the drinking off? Most of all remember that there is plenty of support out there and you don't have to feel alone.

happy birthday i turn 32 in june
